The Biological Perspective – Are Unicorns Boys or Girls?

First, we have to remember that gender and sex are two different things. Gender is the individual experience of one’s gender; the gender identity. Sex is defined by whether the individual has male or female genitalia. So, sex is only the biological side of things, and that’s what we’re going to talk about first.

Most animals are born with either male or female reproductive organs. Sometimes, an individual can be born with both, and it’s difficult to say if they are male or female.

In some animal species, all individuals are hermaphrodites. For example, most snails are hermaphrodites. This means they have both male and female genitalia, and any two snails of the same species can breed with each other.

Some fish species and most plants are also hermaphrodites. However, mammals are usually not hermaphrodites.

So, what’s the deal with unicorns? They are mammals, but they are also magical creatures. Does that change things?

The thing is, I don’t think anyone has really been able to have a closer look at unicorns’ private areas. We have only few sources of information to rely on, when it comes to unicorns’ genitalia.

This is what we know at the moment: Unicorns are born with both male and female genitalia.

Despite being mammals, unicorns are hermaphrodites. But this still doesn’t answer the question “do unicorns have gender?”. Now we know what unicorns are physically, but how about mentally?

Do Unicorns Have Gender Identity?

This is the next question: Do unicorns have gender identity? They are animals, yes, but they are highly intelligent magical creatures. Unicorns are able to communicate in an advanced way. They are definitely self-aware. Are they aware of their own gender too?

It seems unicorns do have a gender identity, and most of them know if they are male or female.

The biological side is different, but this doesn’t seem to bother unicorns. And if it does, unicorns can probably magically make their genitalia match their gender identity.

Keep in mind, that unicorns’ mental capacity easily matches with humans. So, you should not ask unicorns certain things. If it’s rude to ask something from a human, it’s rude to ask it from a unicorn too!

Unicorns and Gender – Magically Complex

Unicorns are magically complex creatures, and that applies to their gender too.

Most unicorns have a gender identity; an inner experience of being male or female. However, unicorns are born with both male and female genitalia. When a baby unicorn is born, the parents don’t exclaim “it’s a boy!” or “it’s a girl!”.

Unicorn names are gender-neutral, so unicorn parents don’t need to worry about if the name matches the baby unicorn’s gender or not.

Unicorns might be able to magically change their private parts to match their gender identity, and they probably are. It would be rude to ask if unicorns do that, though, so this will remain a mystery.
